Felicite’s Story

Felicite is a coffee farmer and Fellowship graduate from our community alongside the shores of Lake Kivu in Nyamasheke. Filled with courage and tenacity, Felicite became a natural leader within her Fellowship group, encouraging and motivating her peers throughout the program with compassion and follow-through. Upon graduation, she pitched an idea at Kula’s Business Plan Competition and was given the highest investment award for her business plan to build a maize flour business alongside her coffee farming business. Through diversifying her income, Felicite and her husband Cession aim to send all eight of their children to school.

After graduating, Felicite got to work. She immediately used her business investment to purchase an advanced milling machine for grinding maize and began selling the product in her local market. Her long-term plan is to increase the capacity of her business and package the flour for safe transport beyond her local market into other regions of Rwanda, all the while propelling her family forward in the process.

Felicite is now earning over 37x per month (!) over the income she was earning at the start of the Fellowship from her grinding business alone. Her success has even drawn the attention of her neighbors, allowing her to share he own experience and business advice with the people around her.

Felicite’s success is truly outstanding, and we celebrate the growth she has seen as an inspiration to Fellows for years to come!
