Agnes’ Story

Agnes Amahirwe, a recent graduate from the Kula Fellowship, has as story marked by resilience and remarkable success. As a young, single mother, she joined our program having just begun planting coffee trees in the hopes of becoming a coffee farmer.

For her, the day she started receiving training in financial literacy, something clicked. She joined a savings group and for the first time started working towards set savings goals — eventually increasing her monthly savings by 2400%, saving enough to purchase a few pigs. She then decided to launch a pig rearing business in her local market, crafting a business plan and winning a business grant from Kula at our recent November graduation to fuel her plans and ultimately her dreams for herself and her child.

Looking ahead, Agnes envisions a future of growth and expansion. She says she “regained self-esteem from the Kula trainings” and plans to use the profits from her livestock business to purchase a larger plot of land on which she can grow her coffee farm and create even more opportunity for what’s next. Her foresight and determination showcase a journey of continuous progress, illustrating the power of financial literacy and equitable entrepreneurship.
