ABOUT COW FOR COFFEE FARMER PROJECT
Our partnership with the Coko Coffee Cooperative began in 2015 when we had the opportunity to meet with their incredible president, Teddy, and several of the families in her cooperative. After spending time with them and listening to their successes and challenges as a cooperative, they presented us with a business plan for a cow program in the community.
Cows offer both quality organic manure for their coffee farms, yielding higher quality and production of the coffee trees, and milk, providing increased nutrition and sustenance for their families. The Cow for Coffee Farmer Project began by providing five pregnant cows to families selected by the cooperative. The families have learned the best practices to use in taking care of their cow, and when their cow gives birth to a calf, it will be given to a new family in the cooperative based on need. The same process will then repeated over and over until more and more families in the community have cows that will help improve their businesses and the health of their families.
The Cow for Coffee Farmer Project is in partnership with the Coko Cooperative, located in Gakenke, a district in the Northern Province of Rwanda.
